WERK // Fat of the Land // #2

october 16, 2010.

the abbey theatre, dublin.

It was 'ding-ding' round two in our double bill of WERK which took place as part of the Abbey's in house programming during the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival 2010. A new bunch of crazies took to the stage, the bar, the back stairs, the cupboard, the box office and anywhere else a performance was possible. There were lots of fresh faces in the sold out crowd and a queue for returns half way down Abbey Street!

What the flyer said...

In a late-night haze of neon and performance, live art and discotheque, the belly of the Abbey Theatre is returning to WERK. Underground club and performance roulette - this infamous blast of ideas is a guaranteed wild night out. Irreverent, bold and trashy; WERK is the house of outrageous investigation, abnormal talent and unnatural beauty. It’s a party. Clock in – WERK out.

Who got involved?

Artists and performers included, Neil Watkins, Fionn Kidney, Fanci, Anne Fetamine, Veronica Dyas, Fintan Walsh, Nick Lee, Tony Flynn, Aonghus Og McAnally, Marie Mulholland, Raymond Scannell, Kathy-Rose O'Brien, Sarah Greene, Wayne Jordan, Pop Ceili, Dryad's Saddle, Karl Shiels, Pav the Fiddler & Chewy Chewerson mixin' chooooons.

What we say...

Phillip: The end of a totally sold out season of WERK. It was amazing to host so many brilliant artists, most of whom had never performed at the Abbey and many of whom had never performed live before. We wrapped it up at an epic old school party complete with kegs, decks and a line of taxi's outside the house...now that's what we call a party!

Jenny: Karl Shiels began his excerpt from Howie the Rookie by exclaiming: "I was told this was the scariest stage in Dublin...and it fuckin' is!", before proceeding to step away from the mic and deliver the monologue to a completely hushed and enthralled crowd. Boom! Experiment successful.
