THISISPOPBABY
Electric Picnic 2010

Our third year at the Picnic and everything came together beautifully. The team, the programme, the production, and most importantly, the weather! The tent looked stunning and was jam packed from the minute the doors opened at 6pm on Friday until the wee hours of Monday morning. Oh how we danced.

What the flyer said...

Drag Superstars, WERK Idols, Performance Giants: THISISPOPBABY hatch their best Picnic line-up yet

Under the inflatable gaze of a giant benevolent baby, THISISPOPBABY hatch a perversely outlandish programme of Drag Royalty, Petit Queens, Wonky Poppers and Performance Giants for the Electric Picnic Music and Arts Festival 2010.

Art installation, subversive performance space and late night den of excess; THISISPOPBABY’s 2010 sucker punch bill features exclusive performances from New York’s Gospel Superdiva Our Lady J, extreme London performance artist Jonny Woo and neo-cabaret superstars Bourgeois and Maurice; intimate sets from electropoppers Robyn and Chew Lips; and brand spanking new shows from Ireland’s Elite Queens: Panti, Shirley Temple Bar and Heidi Konnt.

WERK, THISISPOPBABY’s wildly successful Molotov cocktail of performance, art and clubbing seen earlier this year at the Abbey Theatre, will blast the tent’s late night programme with anarchic host Neil Watkins and guest appearances from Veda Beaux Rêves, Bitches with Wolves, THEATREClub, Ponydance, Krisma, Dizzy Dyin’ For It, Roxxy Stone, Opus Gei and the Glorious Mysteries, Bunny, Jackie Cash, Regina George, Blaithnaid McGee, Shazwanda, Alter Ego, AnimaLady, Mr C Gull; DJs Chewy Chewerson, Martin McCann, Will Dempsey and many more.

In a number of Festival super exclusives, THISISPOPBABY will host Electric Picnic’s first ever Live Chat Roulette Show, hosted by performance guerrilla Heidi Konnt and featuring performances and live link ups from Merton, Chat Roulettes’s comedy improve hero, and Lady Gaga impersonator Steve Kardynal. Meanwhile Panti, Ireland’s high priestess of drag, is warming up her willies to present Panti’s Festival Survival Guide – an all-new blend of stand up, top survival tips, interviews and audience interaction.

HOT POP, THISISPOPBABY’s programme of hot new electropop, indiepop and surfpop from rising Irish stars, is headlined by the superb party-makers Cap Pas Cap, showcasing material from their upcoming LP, and also features “Dublin’s sexiest band” The Pulpit and soulful indie pop from The Late Fragments.

What the papers said...

“The company is not so much cutting edge, as creator of a new edge in itself”

What we say...

Jenny: Nailbiting stuff. We found out on the Tuesday before the Festival that one of our key design elements, the inflatable baby, was made not in the UK as advertised...but in China! And more to the point, it was still in China! Eyes peeled on the DHL tracking page, we had a team member positioned at customs in Dublin airport and the entire Stradbally site was on standby for delivery. It cleared customs at 2pm on the Friday and we had it rigged just in time for doors at 6pm. Oh baby!

Phillip: An awesome weekend with some of the best buzzers in the world. The popbaby tent was home to so many friends and first timers, many of whom are now new friends. I had a blast, and the line up was the stuff of dreams. LOVED it!
