In 2008 we joined forces with designer Niall Sweeney and producer Louise O'Reilly to create one of the most talked about venues in Picnic history. With jaw dropping appearances from Justin Bond, Lady J, Johnny Woo and our very own Panti, Veda and Shirley, this twisted alternative performance space, art installation and debauched club was one non-stop POP-Party that left Picnic-goers gurning for more.
Pucker-Up and get POPsmacked: THISISPOPBABY's Dark-and-Shiny Unicorn rides the Picnic…
POP goes the Looking Glass: step through the video-screen into a fairy-tale from the future. The newest space to feature at this year's Electric Picnic is a surreal futuristic Wonderland inhabited by the dark, the twisted, and the strangely-beautiful. thisispopbaby's three-day, non-stop transgressive PopArty is a palace of Performance, Myth and Discotheque.
Slip through the orifice of POP and immerse yourself in an upsidedown universe ruled by Queens of Allegory, Caricature and Disguise. With gender illusion, blinding visions and grotesque wit, you will find yourself Popsucked and Poplicked by a host of international tranniversalist superstars. And then your sweat will turn to artificial sugar as you dance deep into your future and find yourself returning to POP, over and over...
"Perhaps the most interesting development is from THISISPOPBABY...bizarre, hilarious and completely surreal. And that, my friends electric, is what the Picnic is all about"
- Sunday Tribune
"THISISPOPBABY. Great fun in here all weekend, from You're Only Massive to Justin Bond's gig and Johnny Woo's unbelievable gorilla suit performance, and all round good vibes."
- Irish Theatre Magazine
"By 'the madness' Electric Picnic (punters) may have meant the THISISPOPBABY tent, where drag queens performed in the shadows of a giant inflatable baby stuck to the roof and a huge pair of female legs sticking out akimbo from the stage."
-Irish Independent
Phillip: MUST LEARN ON YOUR FEET. DON'T FALL ASLEEP. ARE YOU GETTING ANYTHING OFF THAT?
Jenny: On the Saturday night we stretched a banner across the tent entrance saying: Gone to Grace Jones, back at 10pm. Later on that evening I met Grace herself backstage and told her the story. To which she responded: "I heard about that. I want that sign. Deliver it to my hotel tomorrow morning". Ehm, yes Grace.
