Commissioned by Calipo Theatre & Picture Co. All Over Town is Phillip McMahon's second play. It was produced in association with THISISPOPBABY for the 2007 Dubin Fringe Festival. It played a sell out run at Project Arts Centre, Dublin, September 11 - 15th 2007 and was nominated for Best New Writing.
Sean is twenty one. He’s all over Dublin ..and he hates it. He has a ticket to Australia and a plan: to be anonymous, have the year of his life, change everything, and most importantly, get as far away from Ireland as possible.
All Over Town is a dark and comic odyssey that follows one young Irish man as he journeys across south-east Asia and Australia. A journey where hostel is a dirty word and phoning home is the last thing on the agenda…
Director Darren Thornton (Love is the Drug, Wunderkind) teams up with playwright Phillip McMahon (Danny and Chantelle (still here), Spirit of the Fringe Award 2006) to create this highly anticipated mixed-media show that takes you on a queer journey into the underbelly of paradise.
"Written with considerable verve..All over town is full of life."
- The Sunday Independent
"Andrew Macklin's endearing and vulnerable portrayal leaves you squirming with maternal nervousness."
- Metro
"Macklin gives a fine performance in Darren Thornton's well paced, slickly designed production."
- The Irish Times
Jenny: This was a great show, one of the hits of the 2007 Dublin Fringe Festival. It kept haunting us though and we knew we had to bring it back and develop it further... which we did, for Queer Notions (please see Past Shows 2009).
Phillip: The difficult second album!! This play, in both it's incarnations, remains one of my favourites. I love the character of Sean; he represents the little shit in all of us. I've gone on quite a journey with this script, and i'm really grateful to Calipo for believing in me at the very start.
