A Woman In Progress

A Project Arts Centre commission, presented in co-production with THISISPOPBABY as part of the 2009 Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival.

Written and performed by Panti, and directed by Phillip McMahon, A Woman in Progress played in the Space Upstairs at Project Arts Centre Dublin, Sept. 24th - 26th & Oct. 8th -11th 2009.

What the flyer said...

1970s Mayo, a boy with a mind of his own yearns for a world he's not sure even exists. He doesn't know where or how to start looking but the Pope's visit to Knock convinces him he has to try.

In this sharp but poignant stand-up show, Panti traces her journey from small-town boy kicking against the uptight traditions of rural Ireland; to towering plastique woman in wigs and false lashes, railing against the death of the gay culture that saved her.

What the papers said...

"your first encounter with the phenomenal drag queen Panti is a little like suddenly discovering a new planet in the solar system."       - The Irish Times

"(Panti) is an entirely engrossing and charming presence, at once implacably brazen and unexpectedly vulnerable."                                   - Irish Theatre Magazine

"Original and honest...very funny...sharp, tender, raw, revealing." -Irish Independent

What we say...

Phillip: This was a bit like the icing on the cake for 2009. Panti in the Dublin Theatre Festival! Whoda thunk it?! She totally nailed it as well...

Jenny: What makes Panti such a great story teller is that everybody can relate to her journey. It's such a distinctly and wonderfully Irish tale too. Joyous to see a more conservative theatre crowd nodding and clapping along in absolute recognition.
